Charity Golf Day

Our annual charity golf day was again held at the Kingswood Golf Club on Thursday March 31 2011.  The event was followed by a Presentation Dinner and Charity Auction

The day was enjoyed by 89 golfers and a similar number for dinner.

Once again the Kingswood Golf Club provided the use of the golf course for the day.  Without this support the funds raised on the day would be significantly less.

We would like to give a big thank you to the Kingswood Golf Club management for their ongoing support.  As has become the norm, the course was presented in magnificent condition and our thanks also go to the grounds staff for their commitment to the course.

The competition of the day was Individual Stableford for Men and Women and a Callaway competition was held for golfers without an official VGA Handicap.

The Mens winner on the day was Bruce Whitaker and the Ladies winner was Lila Thomas.

Without the continuing support of our Sponsors and our team of volunteers, events such as this have no life.  We would like to thank all our Sponsors:

Bendigo Community Bank Dingley Village

Bakers Delight Dingley Village

Bramwells Floor Coverings Pty Ltd

City of Kingston

Dingley Glass Pty Ltd

Goodlife Health Club Dingley Village

Jefferson Ford Mentone

Keables Pty Ltd

Ray White Real Estate Dingley Village & Cheltenham

The Good Guys Moorabbin

Thanks must also go to a list of minor contributors who continue to support this event and help contribute to the overall success of this day.

We are please to announce that the amount raised on the day was $10,189.  These funds will be used for Rotary projects with the majority this year going toward Flood Relief across Australia.

Theatre Nights

Amateur theatre nights at the Brighton Theatre are a very enjoyable fund raiser. We are able to obtain seat allocations for several productions throughout the year.  Contact William Belt on 9558-2933 for tickets.

Australian Masters Golf Parking

In November each year Parking Rotarians and volunteers work as parking attendants at the Australian Masters Golf to raise funds. Around $5000 was raised this year and was used to purchase two Shelter Boxes.

Community Projects

Garden maintenance and window cleaning at Abbeyfield House in Dingley Village is an annual event and is also a great social day where Rotarians, partners and friends come together to wash windows and chat to the residents.  This is then followed by a BBQ. It’s always a great day of fun.

At a recent working bee the members of the Rotary Club of Dingley Village, together with their partners volunteered their services by rolling up their sleeves to lend a hand to the Abbeyfield Society in Dingley Village.  Abbeyfield in Dingley Village is a purpose built, bed-sit style accommodation home for older residents.  Abbeyfield has accommodation for 10 residents and provides home cooked meals and a homely atmosphere.

Recent Rotary Club President Alistair Law said ‘Our members and partners look forward to this annual working bee as a means of connecting with local residents. We wash windows inside and out and clean gutters’. Alistair went on to say that ‘you would think these jobs would be a chore but our members actually have fun. We also get a chance to chat with the residents at Abbeyfield.’

Senior Citizen Awards

The ‘Senior Citizen of the Week’ is a project close to our hearts and has been running for some years now.  Each week a Rotarian visits a Dingley Village senior citizen for a cup of tea and a chat.

A small living plant donated by GardenWorld in Springvale Road is presented to the lucky recipient in appreciation to their contribution to our local community.  Recent recipients include Betty Gatt, Rita Aubrey, Joyce Keats, Ruth Birkit and Marjorie Johnston.
