The Rotary Foundation
Our Rotary club contributes financially each year to the Rotary Foundation which is a not-for-profit corporation its vision of a better world. The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education and the alleviation of poverty.
End Polio Now
Each year our Rotary club contributes financially to End Polio Now. Since 1985 Rotary has led the battle against polio, and by keeping the pressure on, the number of reported worldwide cases has plummeted from 350,000 per year to 5 new cases year-to-date in 2017. When India went off the list of endemic countries in 2012, we took one more step toward eradicating a human disease from the earth for only the second time in history. Rotary and its partners are ‘This Close’ to making this a reality.
University Sponsorship of a student in Tanzania
Our Rotary club sponsored Caroline to attend the School of St Jude in Tanzania from a very young age. The school was set up by Gemma Sissia, an Australian humanitarian with a passion for making a difference. Gemma’s story has been featured on ‘Australian Story’ a number of times. The School of St Jude’s mission is to ‘Fight Poverty through Education’. Caroline is a high achieving student from a very poor family and excelled in primary school. After ‘giving back’ by working in her local community for a year after finishing primary school, Caroline is now studying a Bachelor of Laboratory Science in Clinical Chemistry at Muhimbili in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. The club will continue to sponsor Caroline for the remainder of her University studies.
